Marine Rescue Mooney Mooney

VMarine Rescue Hawkesbury, based at Mooney Mooney, is a dedicated volunteer unit of Marine Rescue NSW, committed to ensuring the safety of boaters in the Hawkesbury region. Their operations encompass a range of critical services:

Key Services:

  • Search and Rescue Operations: The unit responds to emergencies on the water, including distress calls and vessel incidents. In March 2024, Marine Rescue NSW volunteers, including those from Hawkesbury, conducted 515 search and rescue missions, marking the organization’s busiest March on record.
  • Radio Communications: Volunteers monitor marine radio channels 16 (VHF) and 88 (27MHz) around the clock, providing assistance and coordinating rescue efforts. They also offer a ‘Log On’ service, allowing boaters to check in before heading out and ensuring someone is aware of their plans.
  • Boating Safety Education: The unit conducts public boating and radio courses, including General Boat Licence and PWC Licence courses, to promote safe boating practices.
  • Recent Activities:

In June 2024, volunteers from Marine Rescue Hawkesbury participated in a major Search and Rescue Exercise (SAREX) off Bondi Beach, collaborating with agencies like NSW Police Marine Area Command and Surf Life Saving NSW. This exercise aimed to enhance multi-agency coordination and readiness for real-life emergencies.
