About ViVid Sydney
Vivid Sydney is an annual festival of light, music and ideas. It includes outdoor immersive light installations and projections, performances and an ideas exchange forum featuring public talks and debates with leading creative thinkers.
This event takes place over the course of three weeks in May and June. The centrepiece of Vivid Sydney is the light sculptures, multimedia interactive work and building projections that transform various buildings and landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge in and around the Sydney central business district into an outdoor night time canvas of art.

ViVid History
Vivid began as a concept smart light festival in 2009 for energy efficiency championed by lighting designer Mary-Anne Kyriakou. Carolyn Grant brought the idea of a smart light project to Renato Rispoli then Manager of Cultural events at Events NSW.
HIKA RAKUYO
Reflective dark water, brilliant lasers and projections, Japanese philosophy – see Cockle Bay in a new light.
This spectacular artwork is a celebration of Hika Rakuyo, a Japanese concept that uses flowers and falling leaves as a metaphor for the transient beauty of life. Told through an eight-minute holographic light and laser show, admire the story of native Australian flowers blooming across the dark water of the bay.
Hika Rakuyo is a reminder of the beauty of flowers, their fragility and the crucial role they play in our ecosystem. An awe-inspiring reminder of our own transience and connection to the natural world.

Darling Harbour
Catch ‘Magicians of the Mist’ at DarlingHarbour, a theatrical display of fountains, lights, lasers, and fireworks.
